Infinity: Our next frontier

Santa Barbara wargaming is in the middle of learning a new game system: Infinity. We hope this will become an alternative to our mainstay Warmachine/Hordes when we feel a little burnt out and don’t want to soil ourselves with a GW product.

Death Clock iPhone App in the Works

After creating my first iPhone app Hit Gauge (, I have moved onto a better game timer app than what I've seen available. I call this new app Death Clock after the steam roller timing scheme.

Overall, a timer app is very simple. It ticks away the players time, and that is that. But, what I am hoping to create with Death Clock is supplemental information that will help the player better manage his time.

As you can see with the screenshot above, the timer interface is very simple, and very obvious.

  • Although green and red are not the most aesthetically pleasing to the eye, they are ingrained as "Go" and "Stop" respectively. This makes for easy viewing of the timer state.
  • The Pause/Resume button is found in the middle, away from the players times, to decrease the chances of a player accidentally pausing the game.
  • The "i" button provides gamers access to the options screen, even while the timer is ticking away.
  • What you don't normally see in a timer clock, is that the player can clearly see his elapsed time. This is very handy for chess clock, so you know that you have spent X amount of time on this turn.
  • Provide the gamer with times for his previous turns, to time management accordingly.
  • Support for all available timing schemes. Presently: Chess Clock, Timed Turns (with Extension), and Elapsed Time

I hope to make Death Clock the staple game timer for Warmachine and Hordes players with access to the iOS platform.

Depending on how many options are available within the App, I plan to sell it for either $.99 or $1.99.

Win Buttons

Thanks to the wonderful forumites at Privateer Press for all their help.

I was hoping to compile a list of very dangerous combos* to give to newer players who are getting frustrated. Explain how the combo works, why it is dangerous, and how to counter it. I hope this will ease their way up the learning curve, which can be quite steep. Once they are posted (I would guess there is about 100) I will compile a document (organized by faction) that can be requested by new players (and that I can give out to new players in my group) and that can be referenced before a game with a waac player.

This is the SECOND draft, so if you have more additions or addendums, comment away!

Hit Gauge iPhone Application Sneak Peak

I am a computer scientist by trade and I wanted to get back into computer programming, and application design as a hobby. This lead me to ponder what application would I want to make. This lead me to my other hobby: Warmachine/Hordes.

I decided a application that would assist a player in deciding whether he should boost a hit or not, and provide feedback on the odds of hitting under certain circumstances, lead me to create Hit Gauge.

So, over the summer I build a small gatorman force.

It consists of the following:
