Casting about for a fantasy army

So, after a dozen or so games with the Skaven, I have decided they are not for me. I want an army I can rely on, and the wild antics and luck involved with playing Skaven is not my cup of tea. Of course, playing any army in warhammer will entail luck, as it is very dice Dependant, but I want an army who can hang through a few rounds of combat. I am also less enamored of the magic phase than I was. I miscast and killed myself and my army much more than the enemy!

So, I am back to the drawing board. As the campaign is pretty much dead, I can choose another without fear of repercussions. So I am going to go through the entire warhammer roster and eliminate them one by one until my next army is decided!

Beastmen
+Bretonnia
+Daemons of Chaos
+Dark Elves
+Dwarfs
+High Elves
+Lizardmen
+Ogre Kingdoms
+Orcs & Goblins
+Skaven
+The Empire
+Tomb Kings
+Vampire Counts
+Warriors of Chaos
+Wood Elves

Nothing with low leadership.

Beastmen
+Bretonnia
+Daemons of Chaos
+Dark Elves

+High Elves
+Lizardmen
+Ogre Kingdoms

No Gunline armies (or elves):

Beastmen
+Bretonnia
+Daemons of Chaos
+Lizardmen
+Ogre Kingdoms
+The Empire
+Tomb Kings
+Vampire Counts
+Warriors of Chaos

Nothing that other people play consistently:

Beastmen
+The Empire

So I am left with three choices. Any feedback, internets?

Ironmonger's Terrain Tutorial: Large Woods pt. IV

So this will be the long overdue conclusion of my terrain series concerning the construction from the ground-up of a large terrain feature... in this case, a large wooded area separated by a worn trackway running down the middle of it. When I left off posting last time, the basics of the piece of terrain were completed: trackway in green stuff, stumps, trees, and a nice foundation of masonite for it all to sit on. Here, I'll take you step by step in flocking, adding accents, painting, and the use of weathering pigments...

Unboxing: Aeronautica Imperialis

Well, I've decided to do something of an unboxing here, as that seems to be the newest hotness running around the internet as of late. However, this won't be a 'traditional' unboxing so much as a 'check out something I got from ebay' unboxing! So then, this 'unboxing' will be centered around the arrival of my hotly-anticipated (by me, at least), incredibly fun and tactical game of arial combat set across the backdrop of the war-torn battlefields of the 41st milliennim: Aeronautica Imperialis. For those of you who don't know the brief history of Aeronautica Imperialis (or, as it's often called, AI), it is the game created by Forge World for their range of Epic-scale aircraft and air defense ground forces. It incorporates a unique movement system, taking into account 3 dimensional play, speed and altitude when deciding how to move and fire. Resembling strongly Games Workshops' brands of 'Specialist Games,' it requires only a handful of models a side to play, with the standard game being around 120 points. Play is fast and furious, dog fights the norm, and scenarios encouraged.

Good? Read on, gentle reader...

Astral Claws in BFG

Just taking a few minutes to share with you the Space Marine Strike Cruiser I've painted up in the colours of the Astral Claws. This will be the first ship in a much larger 40k/BFG redux on my part to convert the Imperiums forces I currently possess into the Tyrant's Legion. I will be repurposing my Ultramarines into Astral Claws, and the beginnings of the Cadians I have into the Legion. This Strike Cruiser will be joined before too long by a Battle Barge and some Imperial Navy vessels. All I need to complete the ship pictured below is forthcoming Astral Claws/Tyrant's Legion transfers from Forge World. I have the two Badab War books, so let the Secession begin!

My BFG Dark Eldar list

I'll post pictures when I get a hold of a camera :) I'm really excited, they look like a very fun faction to play.

BFG plog

So, here we are, my first progress log! BFG and other specialist games have been the bane of my existence since I first stumbled into the hobby in 1995. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, I dragged my mother and grandma into a hobby shop in Muncie, Indiana. I just wanted to see if the dusty, murky, mil-dewy smelling hole had any Marvel Comics, but what I discovered would leave me broken for the rest of my life.

New Year's Resolutions

I had been thinking about making a post about what people's New Years Resolutions would be, and stating a few myself, and then I saw the GoatBoy over on BOLS had already beat me to it. I figured, why not throw it up on the blogospherenets anyway?

Continued after the jump.
