WFB: Thoughts on Skaven Part 2

Building a Skaven Force for a campaign of death and destruction.

The reign of Cluny the Scourge has begun!

So, my first 7-8 games with Skaven have been a blast. They are very fun to play, and very competitive when they are not busy blowing themselves up. Chapter 2 is coming up fast, and I wanted to get a head start on planning out a force.

So, looking at the Skaven codex that Christian lent me, I see a few units that are must takes for me. First is The Grey Seer. I love Skaven magic, and I wanted to load up on some powerful casters. Second was the Screaming Bell. Super sweet model and amazingly cool rules. I am super excited to field it! Last was some Poisoned wind Globadiers. Very cool look and feel to that unit.

So, I first started with my Core. I wanted a few big blocks of Clanrats, and a few Weapon teams. So I took:

20 Clanrats with Spears, Standard, Musician: 102
-Warpfire Thrower: 70
20 Clanrats with Spears, Standard, Musician: 102
-Poisoned Wind Mortar: 65
20 Stormvermin (For the Screaming Bell) with Musician and Banner of Verminous Scurrying: 165
Total Core: 504

Then I looked at Lord. I decided to promote Cluny to a Grey Seer.

Cluny the Scourge with Screaming Bell: 440

Expensive, but excellent.

This left me with 55 points left to spend.

5 Poisoned Globadiers: 50

Awesome. Maybe not the most competitive army, but one that will be really fun to play!

EDIT: I was just informed of several rules regarding building armies in Chapter 2. Here is my new force:

Warplock Engineer Lv 2 Wizard: 100
Chieftain with Banner of the Under Empire: 70
30 Clanrats with Spears, Standard, Musician: 102
-Poisoned Wind Mortar: 65
30 Clanrats with Spears, Standard, Musician: 102
-Warpfire Thrower: 70
30 Clanrats with Spears, Standard, Musician: 102
-Poisoned Wind Mortar: 65
10 Poisoned Globadiers: 100
3 Rat Ogers and Packmaster: 128
Plagueclaw Catapult: 100

  2. Sweet :)

Lacy is writing up the same kind of thing for her Bretonnians.

Everyone else write their armies as well!

  3. Looks nice. Very solid intro force. I think a warplightning cannon might help you drop tougher targets like chariots and the many Rare choice monsters you will see in bigger games, but the plague claw will be great for messing up opposing infantry regiments. Last, it is well worth getting some protection for your battle standard bearer. Armor or ward saves are great if your characters are going to be in the thick of it.
