Dark Eldar: The Scourge of the Galaxy

I have fallen. The temptation of excess has pulled at my reserved soul for ages and now I find myself gazing up at the spires of Commorragh. Thirsting for more I delve into the depths of the cities savory underbelly, seeking out the ones I know are able to help my body meet the needs of the twisted soul trapped inside. The Haemonculi.

After picking up the codex at the Oakridge Games Workshop, my previous safe-haven, I began reading. The Kabals did nothing for me, the Wych cults were amusing, but they could not illustrate the urge in my soul to create something truely wicked; plus, my witchelves fill the wanton need of fresh blood and spilt entrails. No, I wanted to show something evil beyond recomsense. Evil in it's purist form.

The contortions of flesh did not wait for me to find them, instead, they found me. My mind went to work composing my thoughts, working out the specifics of my future list. An army that was built to not only claim the souls of the living, but warp their previous shells into mutinous beasts that are made to serve my every whim.

This is a theme army. I don't intend to take it to a tournament and win first place, but I do expect it to lend some really creative conversions and some really fun play! Aside from the engines, it's speedy (like Dark Eldar should be), and it's got decent Dark Lance coverage (4). I was tempted to drop all 3 engines for 2 ravagers and some mandrakes, but I felt that was just sacrificing too much of the theme of the army. The idea is Urien and the 3 haemonculi attach to the 9 man wrack and 4 man grotesque squads. They zip up, unload, drop a webway portal through which the engines and beastmasters pour out. The Venoms tag along with the Raiders, swooping over enemy units hitting them with their chains, and provide a nice re-roll for LD tests of my guys. Everything starts with a pain token, so I am practically garunteed 4+ FNPs and Furious charge by turn 2.

Tell me what you think of the list, what would you change while still keeping with the theme?

  2. That list looks so sweet! Very characterful. Maybe add in a squad of Trueborn or Incubi as the Haemii's elite bodyguard.

  3. The Trueborn would only get in the way of the delicate procedures >:)

  4. This list is VERY similar to one I was thinking about were I to ever play the Dark Kin (you know me and theme lists...). Are you planning on putting this list together anytime soon? If so, I'd be down to run my Ad Mech guard agin' 'em!

  5. Yeah, I mean, I have to sculpt 30 wracks, 8 grotesques, 2 Haemonculae, 1 Ancient Haemonculus, chop up my 2 Vypers to make Venoms, kitbash/scratch build 2 Cronos Pain Engines and figure out appropriate models for my beasts; not to mention buying Urien, 4 raiders and a Talos (when the plastic one comes out of course =P). So... I mean, I could proxy the army for now, just to test them out, but really I don't care how they play, I just want to sculpt me some sick looking gribblies. I am starting the concept work today.
